QISSN Brings Home Gold in 2024

2024 has marked the most successful netball and QISSN year for Emmaus College – with the 2024 Emmaus QISSN team winning gold in Division 7, finishing in the top 50 schools in QLD.  This is the best netball result for an Emmaus team and the best QISSN result – in only our 2nd year in the QISSN competition.

The QLD Independent Secondary School's Netball competition or QISSN for short, is held in the first week of the June/July school holidays and has become the premier school netball competition within QLD.  This year the QISSN competition hosted 64 girls teams and 25 boys teams from around QLD, that competed in Townsville from Monday 24 June – Friday 28 June.

The team played 10 games over the 5 days and showed amazing teamwork, fight, energy and netball skill across the week.

With only 2 losses and 5 wins in the pool games, the team moved into the Division 7 finals cross-over as the 5th ranked team.  In the quarter and semi-finals, their opponents were the 2nd and 1st ranked teams in the opposite pool. This did nothing to pressure the girls, only made them  hungrier to defeat them on court, which they did successfully. They faced a tight 18-13 win over Calvary College in the quarter finals and a convincing 26-18 win against Southern Cross College, Annandale – payback for a close loss in the pool rounds. These two wins meant the team was off to the Gold medal Division 7 game.

Their grand final opposition were cross-town rival, St. Augustine's College from Augustine Heights, again a team that defeated them in the pool games.  But this day, the EC QISSN team would not let that result repeat – after a very tight and see-sawing game, Emmaus came away with the win, 18-17.  This meant they would take home the Gold medal and the Division 7 Jemma Mi Mi Sheild.

Congratulations to Charlotte Miller who was awarded the Emmaus MVP for the carnival (votes are awarded from both team coaches each game).  She was a brick-wall in defence and the team motivator and encourager from down the defensive end of the court.

On behalf of the team, Emmaus would like to extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors, along with the families and friends who made the journey to Townsville to support the QISSN team.  Your support was greatly appreciated and the team loved having your encouragement and cheering from the side-lines.

A big thank you to Miss Kickbusch and Ms Kibby on getting the team prepared, ready and on court for a super successful Gold Medal winning QISSN campaign.

We are now looking forward to the 2025 QISSN carnival and defending out title, which will be held in Bundaberg.  If you are a keen netballer, keep an ear out in the notices for squad training and trial updates.
